Salt Cay is a small island two miles south of Grand Turk.  It has the best preserved examples of the salt industry in the Turks & Caicos.  The salt ponds, windmills and Bermudian-style buildings in the centre of Balfour Town make an unusual and charming impression, and the island has been tabled at various times to be designated as a world heritage site.  It is also well known as a diving and whale watching destination.  Salt Cay's north shore has one of the most spectacular stretches of beachfront in the Turks & Caicos.  Despite its small size and population Salt Cay is full of "character" and "characters".
